First off, tell us about the history of Switch Skate & Snow

The first Switch Skate & Snow location was opened in June of 2005 by Mike Behagg and Sean “Beav” Madill. Growing up together in the Ajax/Pickering area we had a number of great stores over the years such as Windward, Pacific, and Eastend that supported the local scene. Being that this was a very long time ago and the scene was not as big as it is today each of these stores slowly faded out. Quite a few years passed and although there were other stores in cities just outside of Ajax/Pickering we decided it was time to give back what we got. After opening Switch Ajax it was not long before we opened our second location in Pickering and just recently we moved our Ajax location to a more central location in town and here we are today. It has been 5 years of steady growing thanks to everyone who has supported the skate/snow scene in our area.

Do you have any up and coming rippers on your skate or snow team?

On the up and coming front Mitch Donovan is doing big things on the skate side and on snow Bradley Hesson, Our team is full of steady rippers and riders who are consistently progressing. Riders like Colin Passy and Andrew Rusk have been doing good things for a long time!

What keeps you motivated to stay in the game?

I couldn’t imagine doing anything other than what I am doing now. Skateboarding and Snowboarding is about having fun and the fact that I get to be a part of it everyday makes me very appreciative. Seeing kids stoked on our store is definitely motivating.

If you could have one celebrity, dead or alive, work in your stores, who would it be?

Chuck Norris. Who wouldn’t want to work with Chucky? Plus he would make an excellent security guard!

What are your best and worst memories from running Switch?

Best memories are of course all the good friends we have met and the good times we have had along the way. There really aren’t any bad memories from the shop other than multiple issues of water leaking into the store.
