DVS Moto Owns The X-Games
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009Blake “Bilko” Williams Claims Moto X Freestyle Gold
All eyes were on Los Angeles the weekend of August 1, 2009 for ESPN’s X-Games XV. Eight DVS Moto team riders including Blake Williams and Kevin Windham showed up to compete.
Bilko ended up taking Silver in Friday’s Moto Best Trick event and claimed Gold the following day in Moto X Freestyle.
DVS Moto Team Manager Dano Legere says it was Bilko’s signature tricks like the Flying Dutchman (back flip 360 scissor kick) in combination with his amplitude and consistency that won it for him.
“Bilko got robbed in the best trick event,” says Legere. “That, however, didn’t affect his performance in the freestyle event. We’re completely ecstatic for Bilko. With all his injuries over last couple years it’s amazing to see him performing like this and taking his tricks to the next level.”
By the end of the weekend, DVS came out with a Gold, a Silver, and two Bronze medals from X-Games XV—including a strong finish for Kevin Windham who took home the Bronze in the SUPER X event. “We’re really proud of the boys and stoked to be a part of making X-Games history this year,” says Legere.

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009DVS’ Shopliftin’ Contest
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009Back in June 2008, DVS offered skate shops throughout the US the opportunity to participate in its first annual Shopliftin’ skate video contest. 100 skate shops signed up, but by the end of the eight-month contest only a dedicated 33 stores submitted their clips.
For DVS’ judging panel, which included Tim Gavin, Dave Swift, Daniel Castillo, and Jeron Wilson, the job wasn’t easy. The field was narrowed to a final five, but in the end it was the amazing skating, creativity, and smooth editing of Pomona, California’s Platform skate shop that won it over.

“There were a lot of great videos and a handful of some with really good skating,” says DVS’ Tim Gavin. “I was impressed with what was given, but ultimately there can only be one winner and that was Platform.”
As part of the winnings Platform will receive a custom run of SMU shop shoes from DVS, a DVS demo sometime in mid August, and a custom DVS Shopliftin’ ad.

Platform, however, wasn’t the only shop that put together an amazing video. Notable mentions include Chris Nieratko and New Jersey’s NJ Skate Shop, Kyle’s crew at Cal’s Pharmacy in Portland, Tony’s mile high team at The Denver Shop, and Malcolm and Tim’s team at PITCREW out in DC.
“I knew from the onset that Shopliftin’ was gonna be a fun project to work on, but I didn’t realize just how rad some of these shop teams actually are,” says The Skateboard Mag’s Dave Swift. “The top fifteen shops really killed it so judging them and picking the top spot was no easy task but I think in the end we nailed the results.”
The Skateboard Mag will have complete coverage of the contest in its August issue, which will be on newsstands in late July. Check dvsshoes.com/skate for details on the upcoming Platform demo to take place in August.
