Last Summer the city of Yorkton, SK was hit by a severe flash flood that destroyed a section of the city. In an effort to turn a negative into a positive, the Yorkton Skateboard Club has come up with an excellent idea. They are proposing that the area damaged by the flood be turned into a public park for the all of the citizens of Yorkton to enjoy. The park would include a “catch basin” which would help control water in the event of a heavy rain, a walking trail and green area for everyone to enjoy and a much-needed public cement skateboard park adjacent to the walking trail to solve the long-time problem of not having a legitimate and permanent skate park in their town. The Yorkton Skateboard Club is attempting to raise money for this project through the Aviva Community Fund contest which is dedicated to improving communities in Canada.
